It's Official
I live in Crazyville. If everything else I've ever told you on this subject wasn't enough....
When I left work for lunch today at 12:00, there was a field blocked off for parking. It included lights and porta-potties. Hubby said when he left, there were people buying permits to set up their canopies for tailgating across from the stadium. The game isn't even until tomorrow! After dinner we drove through campus so I could see. All the restaurants were packed, as I'm sure the hotels were. Nola, are you up here!? Someone had even spray painted their front lawn (nice house) with a big OU, spotlight and all. I wish I had had my camera, but didn't and there's no way I'm leaving the house tomorrow! I'll have to get a picture of it next week. I'm sure it's not going anywhere.

On another, sadder note, hubby got word today. He will be out of the Navy soon. He will be looking for a job. It is ironic that we hear this news on 9-11, eight years after the events that prompted us to re-enlist in the Navy in the first place. We knew it was coming, but it's still sad, though not nearly as sad as this day eight years ago. I mentioned it at school today and we were struck by the fact that the children were babies at the time. They have never known a world without terrorism. Hopefully they will someday. Hubby is one of the heroes that helped in the plight. Thanks.

Thanks for the Memories....
I was at Hasting's the other day and picked up The Smiths and The Psychedelic Furs. Brings back such memories, and makes me want more!!
So, what were some of your favorite bands back in the day, or now for that matter?
We're headed out Thursday on the California adventure. We'll be seeing Carlsbad caverns, the San Diego zoo, the beach, Los Angeles, Vegas, the Toroweap Overlook at the Grand Canyon, and Durango and Silverton! Won't be able to post here, but I'll keep my Facebook updated.

Special Olympics, Part Deux
We had a fabulous time!! We arrived on Wednesday and some of our kiddos did their events and then we were off to Mexico Joe's for dinner. That evening, we attended the Opening Ceremonies.
True to Oklahoma weather, we had to move to the lobby (we were up too high) due to severe weather. They told us we could go back in, but it was more trouble than it was worth.
Thursday morning it rained on us a bit, but then cleared up for the races. Everyone completed their events and got their medals and ribbons. Very exciting. Then we were off to Hideaway Pizza for dinner! Yum...

Happy Mexican Fencing Day!
A few years ago when my sister and brother-in-law lived up north, their friend needed his fence rebuilt. He told all his friends that Cinco de Mayo was Mexican Fencing Day and that everyone was to go the person's house that needed a fence or who's fence needed repair. They had a big party with food and drink and he got his fence fixed. I don't know if he ever told them the truth.

Trip Down Memory Lane
Hubby got me a musical card for my birthday with Molly Ringwald from Sixteen Candles on it (it plays "True," by Gary Kemp). He didn't know me then, but he's heard all the stories. I was known as Molly. Everyone said I looked like Molly. I was cool with that. The above picture is of the skinny me before Senior Prom, circa 1986...
I even got the Molly Ringwald Award in choir. Good times.Monday, April 13, 2009
Birthday Fun
We went to Ft. Worth this weekend for Easter. My in-laws always have a huge Easter egg hunting bash. On the way, I met my friend and her family for lunch. I taught with her many moons ago. It was so nice to meet her precious kids and get re-acquainted. She got her district's Teacher of the Year this year! I'm so proud of her! Way to go Tanya!
I've gotten lots of money to buy books for my Kindle...or to get the new house inspected! ha

Area Special Olympics
We just returned from our area Special Olympics. I am exhausted, sun and windburned, but happy. My kiddos ran, threw, wheeled, and walked their little hearts out, all with the biggest smiles on their faces! It is quite an event. I was even interviewed for the news....hopefully it won't make it. :) I got tons of great pictures, wish I could post some here. We will be going to State in Stillwater in May.
We have made a counter-offer on the house, the guy didn't accept our first offer, so we're still waiting for that news.
I am ready for my comfy couch and some TV or Kindle time, but I'm off to class to present this evening...I hope my addled brain can remember everything I need to say.

A Tiny Week

Here's the sheet we worked on this week. It is a neat "growing flower." The little images are the directions on how to put the seed, stem, and flower together.

But I have a student who likes to cut out the "baby" one. She has a thing about babies. That was the first tiny thing that happened this week.

Tuesday, in my going-back-to-school stress, I went to Taco Bell for lunch and got this tiny mint.

And today, one of my students' mom brought their tiny dog up at dismissal! Isn't he a cutie. Not my style, but cute nonetheless.
I am centering all these picts in hopes that it will stay in alignment. Thank you whoever said that, I can't remember right now.

Pops and Benjamin
Hi all! I'm so lame during my school breaks. I think I'm going to blog more, but in actuality my brain takes a little vacation, too! I go back to work tomorrow, so we'll be back to our more scheduled random babble.
This weekend, we went to Pops on Route 66. We've been meaning to go for awhile and we finally decided that Christmas break is almost over and we needed one last adventure.
Last night we went to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I loved it. Three hours, so make sure you go to the bathroom first, but it was a great story of life and relationships. Check it out!

Second Congratulatory Gift
Not *quite* there yet, maybe when I start going to class the OU crazy-mania will hit me.
On another note.....something has been bothering me. I think this calls for a vote. At work, a school, mind you, would you rather get an email asking you a question or a phone call? Cuz, see, the whole phone call thing just annoys me. I have kids to work with! I can't come take your call right now, and then later during my precious 15.2 minutes of lunch (kidding) I have to find time to call you back only for you to say "Hey, if you talk to so-and-so today, would you tell her I'm leaving her a key in her box?" Um. Yeah. Why don't you just leave her a note?! (The person doesn't have email yet, so she couldn't email her, not that she would've anyway, because she's obviously a *caller*.....) But I can check my email about 20 times a day because it only takes a second, and I can even respond a lot faster because I don't have to leave my room! Ok, done ranting, go vote!

Wrapples!
Does anyone else remember these!? I *loved* these things as a kid. They are sheets of caramel that you peel from the paper backing and wrap around an apple. Add one of the enclosed sticks and voila!, instant caramel apple. Not quite as fun as unwrapping hundreds of caramels and mixing them with butter and filling the house with the wonderful aroma of melting caramel, but a good substitute. My mom did some fun awesome cooking type things with us as kids! Thanks, Momma!Wrap a Wrapple,
Round an Apple,
Eat it quick,
On a stick,
Love caramel apples,
Love caramel apples,
With Wrapples,
From Kraft.
Yep, I even remember the song....

Blue Glitter Ball
I have this blue glitter ball at school. It is big and round and it filled with water and glitter.
I love to let all the glitter sink to the bottom and then turn it over quickly to make the glitter fall. It looks like smoke the way it curls up to sink to the bottom.
This ball also bounces. It is so much fun and I have it right next to my computer at my desk so I have easy access to it when I feel the urge to turn it over. It is quite addictive, really.

Skunked!
Hubby and I were sitting here last night minding our own business watching Law and Order when we smell the unmistakable odor of skunk. He had believed Big Dog had previously gotten it, but this time we were sure. Oh boy, were we ever sure.....
So, we looked online and found this recipe: 4 cups of hydrogen peroxide, 4 tablespoons of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid. So I go traipsing to Target at 9:15 to get the peroxide and bathe both dogs. And amazingly enough, it worked!!
Now, how to get the smell out of the house!? It's faded, but still noticeable when you come in from outside.
Hubby's afraid Pepe Lepew lives under the shed. This is not good!
On other random notes:
1. Obviously I don't teach any of my readers' kids since the overwhelming response to the games/puzzles question was positive. You warmed my heart....there is hope.
2. Thanks for helping me decide which shoes! Don't you love random polls? I know I do!
3. Two Words on the tattoo issue: Peer Pressure. You guys are *not* helping! :)

The Great Shoe Debate
I need your help! We are going to the Navy Ball Saturday night and I can't decide Which Shoes (which is my name on MySpace~LOL)!
Cast your vote in the side bar! Thanks! I don't know what the deal is with this second picture...we weren't concentrating on the picture taking at that moment!
Strap or no strap? Conservative or more risque?
Votes need to be in by Saturday morning, please!

Got some material, beads, fabric, and patterns.
I forgot my camera, so these pictures are from my phone.
My back and feet were sore when I finally sat down in the car.
